Nina's heavenly delights (Las delicias celestiales de Nina) - 2006

Nina is a young woman who ran away to London to avoid an arranged marriage. She returns to Glasgow three years later (after her father dies unexpectedly of a heart-attack) to find his gambling problem means the family restaurant has to be sold. To save it Nina decides to compete in a TV curry competition.

Nina es una joven indo-escocesa que sufre una crisis de identidad. Abandonó el hogar familiar tras mantener una discusión con su padre y cuando el padre muere repentinamente, Nina se ve forzada a regresar para hacerse cargo del negocio familiar: el restaurante hindú Curry House.

Nina se reencuentra con su amigo de infancia Bobbi, ahora convertido en una drag queen que parodia a las estrellas de Bollywood. Pero Nina se encuentra con una sorpresa más, su padre vendió la mitad del negocio a una carismática joven llamada Lisa. Nina se embarca con ella en la misión de ganar el premio ‘Best of the West’ que se otorga cada año al mejor restaurante hindú en Gran Bretaña.

Viola di mare (Sea purple) is a story about the love of two young women, Angela and Sara, who have both grown up in the same historical microcosm surrounded by hauntingly beautiful scenery.

The plot is based on real events that took place on one of the islands near Sicily in the second half of the 19th century, events which were handed down by word of mouth over generations of country-folk till they are woven into a legend.

Viola di Mare is a story about a love that is as intense and compelling as only young love can be, but it also speaks about challenging the rules of society. The film shows up abuses, social injustices and the age-long oppression of women, everything the protagonist Angela staunchly fights against.

Viola di mare está ambientada en la Sicilia de finales del siglo XIX y narra la historia de amistad entre Angela y su mejor amiga de la infancia, Sara, una amistad que no tarda en convertirse en atracción y, por supuesto, en amor prohibido. Cuando el padre de Angela descubre la relación de su hija con Sara, opta por encerrarla de por vida.
